Don'ts of Decoration

Don't Be Square
Symmetry creates a sense of order and calm, but too much of this good thing can make a room feel static. So, shake things up. If your furniture is arranged symmetrically, hang wall art asymmetrically, or go free-form with the furniture and let your artwork add grounding symmetry.
Don't Get Hung Up
Hang 'em high" should apply to Old West outlaws, not your precious artwork. Pictures should be hung at eye level, or about 60 inches from the floor. So if you have to crane your neck or shade your eyes from the ceiling light glare to appreciate what's in the frame, you need to bring yourself and your art down to reality.
Leave Space
Don't Fill every inch of space. Leave some breathing room for favorite items to stand ou
Similar Textures
Don't use too many similar textures in a room. They can cancel each other out.
Do Experiments
Dont be afraid to experiment with different colors, textures and kinds of wallpapers.
Natural Pathways
Don't block pathways in a room so that people can't easily wander around the room. There should definitely be natural pathways in the room and it should flow well as you want people to be comfortable and the room to be natural.
Painting Walls
Don't choose the color of the walls from a paint chip. You may also find that you like a color for small areas but when painted on all the walls in the room it is not very appealing to you.
Small Details
Don't forget about the small aspects that can really change the look of the room. Pieces of art, candles, shelves, baskets, flowers, and figurines can all add special interest to a room. Don't forget these items in your decorating plan.
